Day 17 ~ January 27th

I am really getting into my morning devotionals lately and stepped up that game too! I now have two more devotionals...Daily Reflections by AA and Celebrate Recovery by John Baker and Mac Owen. I am reading those as well as my Jesus Calling by Sarah Young. They're all GREAT and I highly recommend them. I am getting SO much out of each devotional and find them so relatable to my life. Today, Celebrate Recovery and Jesus Calling were both about taking a single step and trusting God. I'm taking a BIG step today. I'm meeting with my sponsor to start working on The Big Book and Step One. Obviously, God knew exactly what I needed to hear today and as I embark on this next step, I will trust in Him.

Hebrews 12:1 states "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us." We are ALL on a race for greatness in our life, but do we act this way and desire HIS greatness in our life? It's so easy to get distracted in our world today and lose focus on the things that REALLY matter most in our lives. The truth is, we DON'T need to put anymore in our life than we really need, but we continue to do this day in and day out. Why? The world has SO many undo pressures that "hinder" us but we can't seem to resist. We must learn to not be quick to say "yes" to everything and get "entangled". Instead, we must give ourselves time to process what we're being asked to do, and pray about it. Is this something that God really wants me to do? Is this beneficial of my time and time away from my family? Is this the "race" that I want in my life? We must weigh out the pros and cons before making any commitment of our precious time to others. Life IS precious, our time IS precious and once it's gone, we can't get it back. THIS is something that I've battled for years. Over committing myself to others, saying "yes" when I really shouldn't have, but NOT today! I want to choose the greatness HE has planned for my life...for today, and always!

Today, I choose to live for TODAY. Enjoying this new journey step by step. Celebrate Recovery stated, "A race begins with a single step, and so does recovery. The only way to run with perseverance is to hang on to God's Hand and let him take the lead. True change comes only when we die to ourselves and allow Christ to set the pace." I will not worry about the unknown, or tomorrow, for today is a blessing. My biggest goal is to NOT drink today and to hold on tight to God's hand as he leads me through this race called life. I know this isn't going to be as easy as it sounds, but one day, one step at a time, HE makes ALL things possible if we trust and believe in Him.
